FAQ

Q. What’s the process for creating a bespoke cane or whip? A) You need to make decisions about your preferred,

  • Core composition
  • Length – suited to your preferred discipline
  • Colour – while black and dark brown are the most popular colours, we can create a cane or whip to match your outfit and jodphurs.
  • Width and gauge of the leather to be used
  • Design of the decorative hardware – eg the topper and ferrules (JMJ has its own exclusive range of hardware)
  • How to design a whip or cane?

Q) Why do use fibreglass in your shafts? A) All of our shafts are made from solid fibreglass, with our own special taper. We consider what sits well in the hand for most people. Most competitor whips and canes have a shaft made from dowel, which can easily and quickly snap. Because of the strength of our fibreglass shafts, our whips and canes are far more durable.

Q) How does Jenean get the braid so perfect? A) We are often asked this question, and unfortunately, we can’t tell you, as it’s a trade secret! What we can tell you is that we have our own unique process that ensures the deliver of a perfectly consistent braid, each and every time.

Q) Where does the leather in your canes and whips come from? A) Our canes and whips are all made with Australian kangaroo leather – the highest quality available.

Q) Are your whips Australian made? A) Yes, we manufacture our canes and whips in Australia – they are handmade by Jenean.

Q) Can you tell me more about your toppers and ferrules?

A) All of our toppers are designed by Jenean and made exclusively for JMJ Canes. If we don’t have what you’re looking for, we can create it. All our toppers are also correctly weighted. We can also feature special photos and memories on your toppers. Our ferrules are made from the highest quality stainless steel.

Q) How long will it take to produce my cane or whip? A)  Usually 7 -10 business days.  If there is a delay, we will contact you.

Q) How do I best look after my cane or whip?
A) Always store your cane in the complimentary dust bag provided “topper down" (so the flapper isn’t squashed). For brown, black and all dark coloured canes, give the cane a wipe with a leather conditioner - as you would with any quality leather item.
Q)  Do you need a specific type of file format for the custom picture toppers?
A) Custom photos for toppers work best with a professional image.  Head and neck shots are preferable, considering the limited size of the topper.  In saying that - we have produced some “moving horse shots”.  The file format is not important - and needs to be sent to the JMJ Canes business message page or via the custom build feature option in custom cane.  Background removal is included in the cost.
